COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — Covington announced this afternoon, Aug. 24, that it has now lifted the boil water advisory for the city.

The advisory was instituted following the break of a 12-inch water main on Monday.  The break caused a drop in water pressure.  The boil water advisory was issued for the entire city.

It happened at the corner of S. Jefferson and E. 15th avenues.

Workers were on the scene into the evening, using heavy equipment to clear an area around the water main so repairs could be made.

The boil water advisory was issued as a precaution.  The state requires that the water is tested for any possible contaminants, after repairs are made, before the public can resume use.

As of this afternoon, the city says the water was tested as safe to use, and the boil water advisory has been lifted.
